WRITER’S BLOCK? NO WRITER’S BLOCK …
Last autumn my fourth book Beautiful Lies was such a pain getting going. I had been thinking about it, carrying it around in my head, rejigging and reworking the story for so long, that once I got down to writing it last September, I thought it would write itself.
Did it? No it didn’t.
After ten weeks of writing and rewriting I had only achieved a few chapters. I almost gave up, thinking this book was not to be. By early December it seemed to be going nowhere. Someone told me I had writer's block, but I kept going ... writer's block or not.
Then unplanned and uninvited a character arrived out of the blue. She was never in the plan, how and why she put in an appearance I will never know, but has this little lady has made such a big difference to the story and my writing.
Now I know exactly what’s coming next, and I can't wait to commit it to paper. My characters wake me up in the middle of the night and make me get up to write which for me is always a sign that I’m really on the right track.
Bring it on …. Bring it on …. Words are flying onto paper and it’s such a lovely place to be.
So, if you think you've got writer's block. Hang in there, keep thinking and keep writing. It will come together.
